Sunday Six: AI, Boxing and Bookstores
Hey There 👋
Happy Sunday! ☀️ As I write this, I’m sitting on my front patio just getting off a 3.10 mile run. Seventy degrees and beautifully sunny. Today is day two of my #30DayShredChallenge. Everyday for 30 days (the month of April), I am investing deeply into my physical fitness.
The rules for the #30DayShredChallenge:
Everyday
🏃 Close Activity Rings
🏋️♀️ 100 Push-Ups
❌ No Sugar
🥑 1900 calorie intake
🥩 Organic clean eating
In May and June, I will set other physical fitness goals to challenge my body. Maybe run a half-marathon or a goal to lift heavier weights. Any suggestions? 💪
The idea being that every quarter (3 months) of my life has it’s own focus. I’ve learned that 30 days isn’t long enough to make a sustainable impact in a life domain (Physical, Spiritual, Financial, Relational, etc) but that 90 days is a sweet spot.
With that, let’s dive into this week’s Sunday Six; things that have inspired or brought me joy this week 😄
Sunday Six ☀️
☕ The Coffee Cup Theory of AI — I’ve read about 25-50 articles on the rise of AI in 2023. The most common things I hear are: “You’re stupid if you’re not using AI” and “AI will never replace humans.”
Oddly, I think both have some truth to it. But I couldn’t articulate why… until I read this incredible article from Every.to.
The key takeaway I got: AI is a master of information curation but terrible at taste and discernment.

🥊 Creed III — Date night with my wife this past week was accompanied with Michael B. Jordan & Jonathan Majors in Creed III. I forked out the $20 streaming rental cost to watch it at home (because we have kids, ya know haha) and thoroughly enjoyed it!
This movie paired along perfect with my #30DayShredChallenge as there is literally no better 2023 body inspiration and workout encouragement.

📚 2 Years of Lessons from Running my own Bookstore — If you’ve followed my Sunday Six for any time at all, you’ve probably guessed that Ryan Holiday is one of my favorite authors of all time.
He also has done something I dream of doing one day: he owns a bookstore. Specifically, The Painted Porch in Austin, Texas.
Here are some of my favorite highlights from this article:
“Anything can be a good business if you treat it like a business”
“For everything you add, take something away”
“If you’re successful, your people should be successful”

📖 What I talk about when I talk about running by Haruki Murakami — I ate through the first 30 pages of this book yesterday. One of the most prolific fiction writers of all time let’s you into what is basically a personal diary of his thoughts and ideas during his runs.
Not only is the vulnerability an inspiration but his consistency and philosophy is simply inspiring. He’s been running and writing for almost 30 years ago. Here is one of my favorite quotes so far from the book:
“Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.”

🎵 LoFi Chill Guitar Beats — I am always looking for new LoFi playlists to enjoy while I write, pray, and do deep work. When you add beautiful guitar to LoFi… I’m simply a sucker for it.
